Vampire Riot didn’t get the memo…

by @ 10:33 pm. Filed under Music

Discovery LPSo I listened to Discovery today.  It is the side project of Vampire Weekend keyboardist/producer Rostam Batmanglij and Ra Ra Riot singer Wes Miles.  It wasn’t anything like I expected.  It was way more poppy and mainstream (in the way of the Black Eyed Peas) than the music nerd bands that these guys come from.  We are talking synth, autotune, and dance beats.  I see a Target and in their future.

The big disappointment was an autotune/synth laden cover of the Jackson 5′s “I want you back”. Apparently Rostam and Wes didn’t get the memo from Jay-z.  Autotune is dead kids.

With the exception of that song (with the recent passing of MJ it creeps me out), I think I will actually download the album for later listening.
