SXSW 2013 Recap

by @ 12:03 am. Filed under concerts, Music, sxsw

It’s over.  I am tired.  I am attempting to figure out what to do with life now that I am no longer watching a tiny person 3 days a week.  While I sort that out, you can check out what I was up to during the fest.

Sunday-Thursday- Volunteer wrangling

Friday- Headed straight to my shift from  a day of client meetings. Finished shift and headed out to meet M at Belmont.  Sadly we arrived after the free drinks stopped flowing.  We decide to go to Gingerman instead

Saturday- Work , laundry, and hanging with my kiddo.  Made it downtown around 7.   We  hit a few parties (something at Stubbs, then Buffalo Billiards, then AMOA) then I met a friend for drinks before the rains came.  Luckily, I had the car that day and we didn’t get too soaked.

Sunday- I biked down in time to see the Hidden Room Theater in ACC.  Then I rolled with the theater peeps to a few parties (liqu-or-treating).  I must say, film people know how to throw a party.  Forget the processed cheese.  Bring out the plate with the cheese with cute labels on toothpicks.  We ended the night with Spring Breakers.

Monday- Worked from home.Biked to Zach Scott for Loves Her Gun.   Minor work emergency leading to bike ride home and more work.  Biked to the Long Center for  Zero Charisma.  Closed  the night out with Pit Stop.

Tuesday- Never again will I schedule a 9 am client meeting during SXSW.  That was pure stupid.  Then there was a bridal fitting, more stupid on my part.  Didn’t make it downtown until late so I ended up driving in.  Thought about seeing Cirque, but ended up going to the the IA closing party at Stubbs (Local Natives, Joy Formidable, Deadmau5 and Richie Hawtin)  then headed home.

Weds-   Worked from home.  Biked into town to see Born in Chicago and Maladies.  Then I went to Stubbs’s to see  Yeah Yeah Yeahs (I suffered through the opening acts).

Thurs-  Worked from home.  Biked in to see  the Improvement Club.  Stopped at the Samsung Lounge to see if it was still possible to win Prince tickets.  Missed out on a film.  Caught Sixpence None the Richer (Gibson Room).  Headed to the Pandora Den to meet up with a friend and caught Dawes, and Nicki Blume and the Gramblers.  It was a party hopping day so we ended up at  Patagonia free Pizza and Split Squad then Lucky lounge  for Ian McLagan. Real dinner at Roll on Sushi.  Then  the  Daptone Showcase at Grownup town (aka ACL Live).  I finished the night at  the Music Hall.  There was no line and I finally got to see Tegan and Sara

Fri-  I biked in for We Cause Scenes and then walked to the Drafthouse for Finding the Funk.    I met up with a friend for dinner.  Then I went to Antone’s for Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears before heading to the Pandora Den for  Angel Hazethe plan was to see Talib Kweli but that didn’t happen. I finished out the night at Antone’s and saw Little Green Cars and Thao and the Get Down Stay Down.

Sat- I biked in for Brother’s Hypnotic .  I managed to get in to the  Finding the Funk Panel.I met the guys from Wallpaper. I killed some time exploring Flatstock.  I grabbed a quick dinner at Naan Stop and spent the rest of the evening tweeting from the Doritos Silo.
